Fleetwood Town boss hopes to complete Ipswich Town double

Town travel to Suffolk for their final League One game of the campaign tomorrow (12pm), having beaten their hosts at Highbury in March.

A win could see Town end the season 14th in the table, while Ipswich can’t finish any higher than their current ninth position.

Grayson said: “They were probably one of the favourites for the division at the start of the season, it’s not turned out how they wanted it to.

“They’ve had a change of ownership and a change of management.

“Reading Paul Cook’s reports over the last few weeks, I don’t think he’s been overly impressed with the players that have been performing – or not performing.

“They have some talented players, you only have to look down the squad, and we’ve got to make sure that we go about our jobs.

“We beat them at Highbury not long ago and we want to do the double over them. If we do that, then it’s a bit of a feather in our cap.

“That’s just another stat really, it was early on in Paul’s reign and he’s changed things around since then and it’s the last game of the season where there is nothing really riding on it.

“We certainly know it’s a team that has underachieved but they have quality in the group that can hurt you.”

As the season comes to a close, attention turns to the transfer market and what it means for those whose deals are running out.

Grayson admits tomorrow will be the final appearance in a Town shirt for some players – but he still has high expectations of whoever features.

“I would have thought it’ll be some players’ last games, to put it simply,” he said.

“I think that will be the case for most clubs up and down the country.

“Players will be playing their last games for football clubs.

“We’ll have a meeting on Monday with the players. I’ll be telling them to their face who is staying and who is not staying.

“Some will have worked that out already, some won’t.

“It just becomes the business then as such. We’ve already started talking to people about the potential of signing new players for next year’s squad.

“While they’re still under contract and still pulling on that Fleetwood Town jersey, they’ve got to go and produce performances because they’re still getting paid and they’ve still got professionalism – and my high demands that I expect from players.”
