LIVE: Northampton Town v Blackpool

Key Events

  • FT: Northampton 0-3 Blackpool
  • Seasiders could confirm place in League One play-offs
  • Cobblers will be relegated unless they win

Somewhat unsurprisingly given their plight, Northampton have started brightly here and have won the game’s first corner.

The Seasiders survive a couple of penalty shouts in quick succession from Joseph Mills’ corner.

Ollie Turton is set free down the right and his cross is headed behind for a corner, Pool’s first of the game.

That’s the first we’ve seen from the Seasiders in an attacking scenario.

11 - Blow for the home side

Northampton have been dealt an early blow with the loss of their captain Joseph Mills to injury following an innocuous challenge with Ollie Turton.

He’s replaced by Michael Harriman.

It’s been a scrappy start and the Seasiders haven’t really got going yet. Northampton’s approach is more of a basic one but it’s causing Pool problems when they get the ball into the box.

19 - GOAL BLACKPOOOL!!!!! (0-1)

Luke Garbutt scores!!!

Jerry Yates is picked out well by Elliot Embleton and the striker does superbly to hold up the ball and wait for the run of Garbutt.

The left-back takes full advantage of the space but Yates is fouled by his marker, leaving Garbutt with few options in the centre. Instead, he opts to shoot and his low, drilled shot flies into the far corner.

Just what Pool needed and the Seasiders on the hill are delighted!

“The Pool are going up” is the chant from the Blackpool fans watching from up high on the hill.

There’s quite a few of them now, maybe 20 to 30. Let’s hope they’re still happy come full-time.

Ellis Simms used his power to see off his marker before volleying wide from the edge of the box. It was only a half chance for the Everton loanee, who was off balance and did well to even get a shot off at goal.

Sunderland are winning 1-0 at Plymouth Argyle, but Oxford United are 2-1 down at Shrewsbury and Portsmouth are drawing 1-1 with AFC Wimbledon.

It’s going Pool’s way so far. If it stays as it is, Pool’s play-off place is guaranteed. There’s a long way to go though...

The men in the Northampton dugout aren’t too happy with referee Peter Wright, who is letting a lot go. It’s making for a good flow though and the game has only been interrupted by stoppages for players receiving treatment.
