Blackpool injury update issued with potential boost for ex-Millwall man
Blackpool take on Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park this weekend.
Blackpool midfielder George Honeyman could still play his part in the final weeks of the current campaign.
The 31-year-old has endured some difficult periods in Tangerine since making the move to Bloomfield Road as a free agent from Millwall last summer.
Injuries have ruled the ex-Sunderland and Hull City midfielder out for extended periods, but a recent hamstring issue may not be season-ending, despite his withdrawal in the first half of the Seasiders’ 3-1 victory over Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon.
Confirmation of a potential boost comes ahead of Blackpool’s meeting with Wycombe Wanderers this weekend, as they look to take another step closer to League One survival.
Providing more information on Honeyman and some of the club’s other injury doubts, head coach Ian Evatt said: “George’s hamstring is better than what we envisioned. It means there’s a good chance he’s going to be available before the end of the season.
“It’s still quite acute at the moment, it’s still in that initial recovery phase, but sometimes the sorer it is, the better it scans - you’ll have to ask our physio department to analyse why.
“It was worrying on Saturday, but the scan has come back extremely positive for a change. We were due some good news, and this week we’ve had it.
“Obviously, Bailey (Peacock-Farrell) had an injury with his finger on Saturday, but that has scanned a lot better than we thought, so it looks like he’s going to be fine.
“For once we’ve got some good news from the scans. I don’t think it could get much worse, it’s almost like polishing a - you know the phrase. That’s basically what I’m doing. We’ll move onto Saturday knowing those lads will be available pretty quickly.”
Josh Bowler is another player who could also still play a part before the season is up, despite fears that a hamstring issue would bring down the curtain on his campaign.
When asked if the winger would miss the final three games, Evatt responded: “Not necessarily, he’s making really good progress. I’m not going to rule him out at all.”
