Hornchurch v Blackpool ratings: Winning goal caps wide man’s performance

Blackpool managed to avoid being on the wrong end of an FA Cup upset at Hornchurch.

Blackpool booked their place in the second round of the FA Cup as Josh Bowler scored two minutes from the end of extra time to earn a 2-1 win at Hornchurch, writes IVAN SPECK.

Ian Evatt’s players were behind at half-time to Henry Hearn’s goal before Jordan Brown volleyed them level in the second period.

Extra time saw the hosts’ Henry Sandat dismissed for pulling back Bowler, who curled home the crucial goal from Tom Bloxham’s pass.

Here’s how the Seasiders’ players rated:

Bailey Peacock-Farrell 6: No chance with the Hornchurch goal, but saved two opportunities late on in normal time.

Andy Lyons 6: Charged around and was fully committed to the cause before injury forced him off.

Olly Casey 5: Lost Hearn at the far post for the Hornchurch opener, otherwise he was solid.

Zac Ashworth 5: The Hornchurch chances at goal came largely through the channel he was patrolling.

Jordan Williams 5: A few decent first-half crosses but was replaced by Bowler at half-time.

Karoy Anderson 6: Some neat moments, but could have imposed himself more on the game against non-league opponents.

Jordan Brown 6: Badly caught out once in the first half but timed his volleyed equaliser to perfection.

Albie Morgan 6: Tireless for 90 minutes and willing to take players on when others weren’t in the first half.

Ilmari Niskanen 6: Much more effective in the second half.

Jerry Yates 5: A tale of two halves. Almost anonymous before the break, his pace helped Blackpool gain the upper hand.

Dion Charles 6: Used his physicality where he could against defenders of similar stature.

Leighton Clarkson 6: Replaced Morgan at the start of extra time as Blackpool sought a winner.

Finley Munroe 6: Had difficulties defensively, but one forward run in extra time might have brought the winner.

Josh Bowler 9: Brilliant for a spell after he came on. His dribbles at pace were far too good for the Hornchurch defenders and won the game with a clinical curling shot.

Dale Taylor 5: Should have relished taking on tiring defenders but was largely ineffective.

Tom Bloxham 6: Like Taylor, didn’t make his quality count against non-league defenders, but did lay on the winner.
