Ian Evatt makes selection admissions ahead of Blackpool's cup meeting with Wigan Athletic

Blackpool take on Wigan Athletic in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night.

Blackpool will make some changes to their starting XI for Tuesday night’s EFL Trophy meeting away to Wigan Athletic - but will still look to be competitive as they aim to get back to winning ways.

The Seasiders have picked up just one point from their last four League One outings, and will be hoping a change of competition alongside an international break will help to change their fortunes.

A trip to the Brick Community Stadium starts their EFL Trophy group stage campaign, with home games against Crewe and Aston Villa U21s to come next month.

For the game against Wigan, Blackpool will be without Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Dion Charles due to Northern Ireland duty, and Karoy Anderson - who has been called up by Jamaica.

While head coach Ian Evatt will make changes due to necessity and to give some players minutes, he will still look to be as competitive as possible to end the current run of poor form.

“We need to perform better than what we’ve done in the last three league games,” he said.

“It’s about finding ourselves a little bit again. There’ll be some changes as we’ve got three away on international duty, and some players need minutes.

“We’ll give it our best shot, and try to recover some of ourselves which we seem to have lost.

“Some like Ilmari (Niskanen) need to play. He’s frustrated, because it’s quite a significant (shoulder) injury, and there’s a worry that if that came out again then we’d lose him for a long period. He’ll be ready to play.

“Andy (Lyons) will be ready to play. Luke (Southwood) will be stepping in because Bailey’s (Peacock-Farrell) is away, but other than that we’ll be as strong as we possibly can be to win the game.”
