Ian Evatt issues immediate reaction to Blackpool's defeat to Plymouth Argyle

Blackpool were defeated 4-2 by Plymouth Argyle on their last outing before a break from League One action.

Blackpool boss Ian Evatt states his side looked fearful in the second half of their 4-2 defeat to Plymouth Argyle - as he aims to improve the Seasiders’ current defensive woes during the international break.

Jordan Brown opened the scoring against the Devon outfit, before a Oliver Irow brace and one from Harvey White turned the contest around in favour of the visitors.

Jerry Yates was able to pull one back; only for Bim Pepple to re-extend the lead heading into the closing stages.

“It started really positively, in the first half an hour I thought we were excellent,” Evatt said.

“We were on the front foot, got the goal, and created lots of problems. We looked like a really good team.

“One mistake - there’s two men on the edge and we lose a duel. Against these types you get punished. We got punished, and we never recovered.

“At half time we were telling them to stop feeling sorry for themselves and that we needed to reset to reproduce what we did in the first half an hour.

“We looked like we were back to last year where we’re not recovering from mistakes which then snowballs and results in more mistakes.

“We’re conceding too many goals. I need to look at myself and what we’re doing. We will do our best in this break to resolve issues because we’re conceding too many chances.

“We beat Peterborough, we were riding high at the top of the league, but in two weeks things can change in football.

“Confidence takes ages to build but can leave you in a heartbeat. In the second half, we looked like a fearful team, and it’s my job to take responsibility for that and pick the players back up to ensure we can resolve our issues and problems.

“It’s been a theme so far that we’re having to work really hard for our chances and it’s too easy at the other end. There are clearly some fundamental issues that I need to look at.

“I’ll work really hard to try to fix the things that we’re struggling with.

“It’s still very early days. It feels hard and hurting - and it should, but we can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We’ve got to take the heat. When you lose football matches in that manner, you deserve heat, and I deserve it, but I’ll work really hard to try and fix it.”
