'Welcome those headaches' - Ian Evatt makes selection admission on key Blackpool area

Ian Evatt is relishing his striking options at Blackpool this season.

Blackpool boss Ian Evatt could have a good selection headache in one area in particular when everyone’s fit.

The Seasiders boss will be dreaming of the day when he isn't dealing with multiple injuries, but that will also bring some tough decisions.

In attack, the club have added their fair share of goals on paper to the squad over the last two summers.

Jerry Yates, who scored 46 goals in 139 appearances during his first spell at Bloomfield Road, became the latest addition to the strike-force last week.

On Saturday afternoon against Peterborough United, the 29-year-old made a scoring return off the bench in the 4-0 win, with Dion Charles and Tom Bloxham starting.

The former of the two, who scored his first goal in Tangerine at the weekend, has been a proven hit in League One previously with Bolton Wanderers and Accrington Stanley, while the latter has grown into his new role at the top end of the pitch over the past 12 months.

The Yates signing was mainly actioned in order to provide extra cover for two players who are currently missing due to hamstring issues.

Both Niall Ennis and Dale Taylor have also enjoyed bright spells in the third tier in the past, but have struggled to feature consistently in Tangerine due to spells on the sidelines following their moves last summer.

While Blackpool are still a few weeks off welcoming the absent pair back, Evatt is looking forward to utilising his different options.

“I welcome those headaches,” he said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“I’ve had headaches for different reasons since I’ve been here; I absolutely welcome making tough decisions and having serious options.

“I’m excited by that. I’m excited by what the squad looks like at the moment - again, not taking it for granted.

“I do feel like I’m going into a gun fight with some serious ammunition, which is great for a manager to have.”
