Blackpool 4-0 Peterborough United: Seasiders make statement with returning hero among scorers

Blackpool claimed a 4-0 victory over Peterborough United to make it seven points from their opening three League One games.

Blackpool continued their bright start to the new League One season with their strongest display yet - as they overcame Peterborough United with a 4-0 victory at Bloomfield Road.

Building on their 2-1 win away to Stockport County last week, with Seasiders took control of the contest against the Posh with goals in quick succession from Jordan Williams and Dion Charles.

On the opposite side of the break, Karoy Anderson extended the lead further, before Jerry Yates marked his Fylde Coast return with a one off the bench.

With a number of impressive saves already under his belt throughout the opening month of the season, Bailey Peacock-Farrell was on hand with another.

After finding some space down the left, Owura Edwards whipped a ball to the back post for Harry Leonard - who saw his close-range header stopped by some quick reactions from the Blackpool goalkeeper.

Down the other end, it was Evatt’s side who opened the scoring in the 18th minute, with the deadlock being broken by Williams after some defensive confusion in the box.

The Seasiders were swift in doubling their lead, and left no time for the Posh to compose themselves.

A shot from Josh Bowler was parried by Alex Bass, with Charles being the first to react from close-range to finish for his first goal in Tangerine.

After some poor defending from the visitors, there were some woes in attack. Edwards was on hand with another impressive ball into the box, but Ethan Williams could only his first-time effort over the crossbar.

There were opportunities for Blackpool to extend their lead further ahead of the break. Bass was able to make up for earlier errors, stopping a curling effort from Charles, before denying Bowler - who fired towards the front post.

The start of the second half followed a similar pattern to the first. Peacock-Farrell was on hand with another strong save, this time denying Williams, before the Seasiders pounced at the other end.

A George Honeyman cross from the right was met by Anderson - who flicked home a header across the face of the target.

Yates’ introduction came just after the hour mark, and it took him only nine minutes get register the first goal of his second spell, following his loan move from Luton Town last week.

With the ball loose in the box, the forward pounced from close-range to make it 4-0.

Another chance did come the way of the 29-year-old, but a double wasn’t meant to be, with the shot going just wide.
