Six former Blackpool figures suffer Wembley heartbreak while ex-Peterborough United and Wigan Athletic man celebrates Notts County promotion

Notts County clinched promotion to League One with a play-off final win over Salford City - with a number of former Blackpool players in action.

A former Blackpool captain enjoyed play-off success on Bank Holiday Monday - while it was a day to forget for several other ex-Seasiders figures at Wembley.

Ollie Norburn was handed a starting spot for Notts County, as they claimed a 3-0 victory over Salford City in the League Two play-off final to clinch promotion to the third tier.

The midfielder is a familiar figure at Bloomfield Road, having been on the Fylde Coast between 2023 and 2025, during which time he spent a period as skipper after his initial move from Peterborough United.

His final few months on the books of Blackpool was out on loan with Wigan Athletic, due to his game time becoming limited, with a permanent switch to Meadow Lane coming last summer following the conclusion of his contract.

One of the coaches at the time of Norburn’s Seasiders exit was Steve Agnew - who is a long-term associate of then-manager Steve Bruce.

The 60-year-old was also at Wembley on Monday, as part of Karl Robinson’s Salford backroom staff, having made the move to Moor Lane back in February.

Elsewhere, there were several ex-Blackpool figures on the pitch for the Ammies.

Luke Garbutt is the captain of the Greater Manchester club, and tasted League One play-off success back in 2021 during his time in Tangerine.

Across a three-year stint at Bloomfield Road, the defender made 65 appearances in total.

Ollie Turton was also part of the Seasiders’ last promotion success, having been with the club between 2017 and 2021, and was an unused substitute in Salford’s Wembley heartbreak.

Goalkeeper Mark Howard, who featured 52 times across two spells with Blackpool, and former Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn, who has previously spent time on loan on the Fylde Coast, were also among those on the bench - with the latter being introduced in the second half.

Mackenzie Chapman is also on the books of the Ammies, but wasn’t part of the matchday squad for the play-off final.

The ex-Blackpool third-choice shot stopper made the move to Moor Lane back in November.
