Blackpool boss issues further injury update on ex-Millwall and Luton Town figures

George Honeyman and Josh Bowler are not expected to feature again this season for Blackpool.

Blackpool are not planning to risk George Honeyman and Josh Bowler again this season.

Both players have been hit by injury in the last few weeks, but the prospect of them potentially featuring again had been hinted at.

Honeyman, who made the move to Bloomfield Road as a free agent from Millwall last summer, was forced off with a hamstring issue in the Seasiders’ recent home outing against Peterborough United.

Despite fears around the seriousness of the issue, a scan later revealed the problem wasn’t as bad as first feared.

Meanwhile, it was a similar story for Bowler, with the ex-Luton Town man having made progress in his recovery in the last few weeks after being withdrawn against Burton Albion at the end of last month.

Blackpool’s 1-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday afternoon more or less secures their League One survival, with six points currently between them and the relegation zone, with just two games remaining and several teams between them and Exeter City in 21st.

With the situation towards the bottom end of the table now easing, Seasiders head coach Ian Evatt admits Honeyman and Bowler won’t be used again this term, as they join the list of absentees until the summer.

“I would think post that, the handbrake will go on a little bit,” he said.

“It’s been tough for so many of them (this season), I use the word adversity a lot. We’ve had so much adversity this season with injuries.

“Albie (Morgan) is arguably one of our best players and I’ve hardly had him available - Dale (Taylor) is the same, we’re having to be cautious with him, but he’s a big player for this football club.

“Michael Ihiekwe has put himself forward time and time again at 50 percent fit, and he has so much respect for that. Having him back next season, and others, gives me a lot of confidence moving forward.”
