Blackpool boss passes verdict on Huddersfield Town loanee's strong week in Tangerine
Blackpool head to Reading looking to get back to winning ways this weekend - and Dion Charles could play a big part of that.
Dion Charles has started to firmly adapt to life with Blackpool over the past week.
The start of the forward’s time in Tangerine was disrupted by a foot injury during pre-season, but he’s been able to put that behind him in the last two games in particular.
After bagging his first goal for the Seasiders in last weekend’s 4-0 victory over Peterborough United, the Huddersfield Town loanee was on hand with an assist in Wednesday night’s 2-1 defeat away to Barnsley, and was one of the standout players for the visitors.
Ian Evatt knows Charles well having previously worked with him at Bolton Wanderers, and is hopeful he can continue to progress heading into Saturday’s game away to Reading.
“I just had minutes with him and said: ‘That’s the Dion Charles I know,’” he stated.
“The Dion Charles I had at Bolton was exactly that - punching above his weight and playing above his weight, being a menace to defenders.
“Creating opportunities and looking dangerous in all aspects of the game is something he’s got to keep going.
“I think he’s showing our fans what he brings to the table, and I think they like what they see.”
In the past two games, Charles has started up front with Tom Bloxham - leaving recent returning hero Jerry Yates on the bench.

Evatt admits after being cautious with the striker following his loan move from Luton Town, he could be edging towards his first start.
“I like what I see,” he added.
“He hadn’t done very much at all in pre-season, so you’re always guarded over going to the well too soon and breaking him.
“In the minutes he’s played, he’s looked sharp and lively. I think he’s ready to go now.”
