Blackpool boss explains absence of defender ahead of Barnsley meeting

Blackpool claimed a 4-0 victory over Peterborough United to make it seven points from their opening three League One games.

Blackpool were without several first-team players on Saturday afternoon but were still able to claim a 4-0 victory over Peterborough United.

Jordan Williams, Dion Charles and Karoy Anderson were all on the scoresheet at Bloomfield Road, before Jerry Yates marked his Seasiders return with a goal off the bench.

The absences Zac Ashworth (suspension), Jordan Brown (recovery from a seizure), Ilmari Niskanen, Fraser Horsfall, Michael Ihiekwe, Niall Ennis and Dale Taylor (all injury) were already known ahead of the fixture, but Hayden Coulson was also added to that list once the teamsheet was released.

Discussing why the wing-back missed the Posh game, Blackpool boss Ian Evatt said: “He picked up quite a significant dead leg on Tuesday. He was training on Friday, but still felt it in some areas, so we decided it was best to leave him off the bench to try and get him ready for Wednesday.”

Heading into the midweek meeting with Barnsley at Oakwell, the Seasiders will still be without up to seven players, but are currently coping just fine due to the depth they’ve added over the summer.

“With depth you need support, and I’ve been ever so grateful for the support I’ve been given,” Evatt added.

“It’s been fantastic and I like the direction in which we’re heading, but no one is taking anything for granted, we’re going to work hard to make sure that continues.”
