AFC Fylde sign winger Tollitt and confirm six friendlies

The versatile 21-year-old is reunited with his former Wigan Athletic academy boss Nick Chadwick, now assistant manager at Mill Farm.

The Liverpudlian came through the ranks at Wigan, joining the club at 2013. He had loan spells with Chorley and Barrow, for whom he made 15 National League appearances in 2018/19, before joining Salford, initially on loan, in January.

Burgess told the AFC Fylde website: “Everything about the club seems great. It’s a great project. The club shouldn’t be at this level and definitely doesn’t want to be. I spoke with the gaffer (Jim Bentley) and with Nick, who made me want to be here.

“We’ve been back in at Salford for quite a while, so I feel quite fit already. This move has been on the cards for a bit of time, so it is great to now finally get it done and I am looking forward to playing for AFC Fylde.”

Burgess has played as a substitute for Wigan against Blackpool in both the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy.

Fylde boss Bentley said: "Luke is highly regarded and is an exciting talent. Nick Chadwick worked with him at Wigan and rates him very highly.

“He has been doing well at Salford and I am pleased they have let us have him on loan.

" He has already had a successful loan move at Barrow, which will help him, and I am sure he will do well for AFC Fylde.”

Fylde have signed Burgess a day after confirming the signing of the former Blackpool and Maccesfield Town winger Ben Tollitt.
