AFC Fylde 3 Hornchurch 1: Coasters collect another home win on Friday night
AFC Fylde claimed three points in the National League with victory on Friday.
AFC Fylde earned a third consecutive home win in the National League with Friday’s 3-1 victory against Hornchurch at Mill Farm, writes WILL JONES.
Fylde head coach Craig Mahon made two changes from Tuesday’s defeat of Hartlepool United, with Luca Thomas and Luke McCormick replacing Danny Mayor and Cedric Main.
McCormick and Harvey Broad had chances inside the first 10 minutes before Hornchurch opened the scoring on 17 minutes.
Moments after they were forced to replace Will Greenidge with Theo Adelusi, a neat one-touch move ended with Angelo Balanta giving the visitors the lead.
McCormick was bravely denied by Hornchurch keeper Arthur Nasta before Fylde drew level with half-time six minutes away.
Millar Matthews-Lewis hit the post and Kyrell Malcolm saw his rebound cleared off the line before the former smashed home at the third attempt.
The in-form forward quickly added a second goal - and third of the week - in sensational fashion in stoppage time before the break.
He lashed a shot beyond Nasta and in off the underside of the bar, turning the game on its head.
Malcom came close to adding a third after the start, though a reinforced Hornchurch backline prevented him from getting away.
At the other end, Fylde keeper George Pickford was called into action for the first time since going behind.
Although he spilled a low drive from distance, he recovered well by diving at the feet of an opposition player to ensure they would not respond.
Mahon then brought on Jack Morris and Ethan Mitchell, with the first of those proving to be an effective switch.
Morris received the ball in a wide position on 72 minutes before jinking inside and curling a shot beyond Nasta into the far corner for his second of the week.
Another double switch ensured after the third goal as Main and Dylan Allen-Hadley were both introduced.
Nasta was forced to tip over Tom Whelan’s long-range attempt midway through the five minutes of stoppage time, though there was to be no further scoring as Fylde claimed the three points.
