“In addition to the significant safety risks this creates, valuable time has been spent rebuilding and securing the compound each morning, causing further delays to the project.”

Wyre Council said it understands it “isn’t ideal” but it has been forced to close the Memorial Park playground for improvement works after serious health and safety concerns were raised after the work compound was “repeatedly compromised”.

A spokesman for Wyre Council said: “We had hoped to complete these works without a full closure, however ongoing anti-social behaviour on site has led to serious health and safety concerns.

“The security of the work compound has repeatedly been compromised, resulting in unauthorised access to machinery, equipment and the construction area.

“In addition to the significant safety risks this creates, valuable time has been spent rebuilding and securing the compound each morning, causing further delays to the project.

“For the safety of everyone involved, we have taken the difficult decision to temporarily close the playground until the works are completed.

“The good news is that the improvements should be finished within the next three weeks and will bring new play equipment, including a climbing net, additional swings and exciting new adventure trail features."
