'Help spread this important message'- this is why Fleetwood's Marine Hall will be lit blue today

Wyre Council has announced that one of its most prominent veneus will be lit blue today for a special reason...

Today, the Marine Hall dome will be lit blue in support of World Drowning Prevention Day.

Held on July 25 each year, the day raises awareness of the impact of drowning and highlights simple steps we can all take to stay safe around water.

As Wyre Council revealed their plans to mark World Drowning Prevention Day, they also shared some key water safety tips.

The council advised residents to “[1] Supervise children at all times near water

“[2] Never swim alone

“[3] Choose lifeguarded beaches and swimming areas

“[4] Avoid alcohol when swimming or taking part in watersports

“[5] Wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid where appropriate”.

“[5] If you get into difficulty, remember to Float to Live – lean back, relax and control your breathing”.

Wyre Council then added: “Look out for the blue illumination at Marine Hall and help spread this important water safety message.”

In April 2021, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly affirmed drowning as a preventable global public health issue and declared 25 July as World Drowning Prevention Day.

Held every year since, the globally recognised day highlights the tragic and profound impact of drowning on families and communities, as well as the life-saving solutions that prevent it.

Find Your Float is then the National Water Safety Forum’s campaign for World Drowning Prevention Day.

The campaign encourages as many people as possible to learn a lifesaving skill – the science-backed self-rescue technique of floating.

National Water Safety Forum members and partners across the UK organised a variety of events and activities betwen July 21 and July 25 to help people find their float.
