“I run Fylde Coast mindful hair salon offering a calmer experience - Everything is tailored to the individual”
Watch Hannah Lou Clark from Cleveleys discuss how she’s combined her passion for self-love with hairdressing by turning her shed into a ‘mindful’ hair salon.
A woman turned her shed into a ‘mindful’ hair salon - with a vibe menu offering different types of appointments, fidget toys and mindfulness activities.
Hannah Lou Clark, 37, from Cleveleys opened the 'Zen Shed' in her back garden, to offer 'mindful' hair appointments and a calmer salon experience.
The salon is especially good for people on the autism spectrum and with sensory issues that can make a trip to the hairdressers stressful.
Hannah used to work as a hairdresser but stopped when 'life got in the way', and took it up again recently when she opened the Zen Shed. But it's not her full-time job and says it's her 'passion' that she fits around her family and main career.

She offers a vibe menu where visitors can choose between a silent appointment, bring their own music, use fidget toys and work on some mindfulness activities like goal setting while they get their hair done.
Clark said: “I think for the children these days as well, parents panic and they don't know how they're going to react, or they might not like the loud noises and stuff. They come here. I can send them pictures and videos beforehand. They've got the colouring. They can even go and bounce on the trampoline if they really want to. There's so many little extras they can do to make them feel happy and comfortable to be able to come and have an experience that everybody deserves. Everybody deserves to look and feel amazing.

“I've got a vibe menu, so it depends on what vibe they want. If you want, you can come have a silent session. Some just want to come and chit chat, and from those conversations you learn a lot and people start then opening up, and that's when you can drop the mindfulness in.”
Clark said she’d like to think everything is tailored to the individual, which makes her appointments more like an experience.
She said: “I don't want them to just sparkle on the outside, I want them to sparkle on the inside as well.”
