The Blackpool Polish Community hosted a well-attended Polish Reunion Party at the Blackpool Subscription Bowling Club, bringing together people of all ages for an evening celebrating Polish culture, history and community life.

The event welcomed not only members of the Polish community living in Blackpool, but also local residents interested in learning more about Polish history and culture. Guests enjoyed traditional food, homemade cakes, live music and a warm, family-friendly atmosphere that encouraged conversation and shared experiences.

One of the organisers, Arek Miedziak, highlighted the importance of the gathering for the local community.

“The event created a valuable opportunity to bring together different generations of Polish people living in Blackpool, as well as those who are simply interested in Polish history and culture,” he said.

Miedziak also emphasised the collaborative nature of the event’s organisation.

“Polish and British volunteers were involved in organising this evening. Working together allowed us to learn a great deal from one another,” he added.

In addition to music and food, guests were able to explore a historical exhibition focusing on Polish heritage in Blackpool. The display included information about the Polish Armed Forces and aircrew stationed in the town during the Second World War, as well as the life and work of Polish poet Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska, who lived in Blackpool between 1940 and 1945. Visitors also learned about Polish-British families who settled in the area after the war.

“The exhibition gave visitors the chance to learn about the history of Polish-British families who made Blackpool their home after the war,” Miedziak explained.

Live music and shared singing proved to be one of the highlights of the evening.

“I would like to thank the music group for preparing a programme of traditional songs and performing them in both Polish and English,” he said. “This became one of the highlights of the night, as everyone was able to join in and sing together.”

Miedziak also expressed his gratitude to those who supported the event behind the scenes.

“My sincere thanks go to all the volunteers, to everyone who prepared the food and homemade cakes, and to the Polish shop Folklor for providing food supplies,” he said.

The evening brought together people from across all age groups, from the youngest attendees to the most senior members of the community, creating what organisers described as a welcoming, family-oriented atmosphere. Funds raised during the event will be used to support the construction of a memorial dedicated to the Polish Air Forces stationed in Blackpool during the Second World War.

Looking ahead, the organisers are already inviting residents to future events.

“I would like to warmly invite everyone to Polish Heritage Days in May, as well as to a poetry evening in March at Tea Amantes - Tearoom & Gallery,” Miedziak said.

The Polish Reunion Party once again demonstrated how cultural events can strengthen community ties, encourage cooperation across cultures and keep shared local history alive in Blackpool.
