Colourful new artwork taking shape in St Annes Square as Fylde Council and town prepare for Kite Festival
“Be sure to snap a photo when you spot them!”
A colourful new art line is taking shape in St Annes Square as the town prepares to bring the spirit of its popular Kite Festival to life.
Fylde Council said the blue domes in the square are starting to be painted, with Felicity from Purple Peacock Art helping create the designs. The council said: “Something colourful is taking flight in St Annes Square! The blue domes are starting to be painted, with Felicity from Purple Peacock Art helping us bring the Kite Festival spirit to life throughout our town centre.”
Visitors are being encouraged to keep an eye out as the designs take shape and “be sure to snap a photo when you spot them!”

The new artwork comes as St Annes Square continues to play a central role in the town’s events calendar, following the completion of its £3.13m regeneration by Fylde Council in 2025. The scheme transformed the heart of St Annes and provided a new venue for community festivals and activities, coinciding with the town’s 150th anniversary.
Over the past year, the revamped square has hosted events including the St Annes Music Festival, the annual Kite Festival, Fylde Fest and Spring into Life. The regeneration also appears to have coincided with increased footfall in St Annes centre, with Fylde Council reporting an 8% rise compared with August 2024.
More than 277,000 people are estimated to have visited St Annes centre over the last 12 months, according to Fylde Council leader Councillor Karen Buckley. She said: “It has been wonderful to see the Square become such a vibrant part of our community over the past year.
“From live music and dancing to markets and festivals, residents and visitors have truly embraced this fantastic space. This is exactly the kind of investment that makes a real difference to our town, and we look forward to welcoming even more people to enjoy everything the Square has to offer.
“Residents and visitors can look forward to an exciting programme of events continuing through the summer and into the autumn.”

Meanwhile, work is also continuing on the £1.6m Pier Link scheme, which will refurbish the stretch of road between St Annes Square and the pier and make it one-way to traffic. The project began in February and was initially expected to take 18 weeks but is substantially overdue.
Following concerns from residents about the timescale and suggestions the scheme had run out of money, Cllr Buckley issued an assurance earlier this week that there was no problem with the finances.
She said the project would be completed by the end of this month or early next month.
