More live arts coming to Blackpool thanks to £90,000 Arts Council England funding boost
The funding will help create a varied programme of performances and activities, ranging from touring theatre and live music to poetry, art and craft sessions.
Blackpool residents will be able to enjoy more theatre, music, poetry and creative activities on their doorstep thanks to a new two-year programme backed by £90,000 of Arts Council England funding.
Blackpool Libraries is joining forces with Blackburn with Darwen Libraries and arts organisation Culturapedia to bring more live arts experiences into local libraries and communities.
The funding will help create a varied programme of performances and activities, ranging from touring theatre and live music to poetry, art and craft sessions.
It builds on previous events delivered in Blackpool through Culturapedia’s Spot On Lancashire programme, which has brought performances to Anchorsholme, Layton and Moor Park libraries.

Cllr Lynn Williams, Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “Our libraries are already so much more than places to borrow books. From live music and family sessions to art, craft and social groups, they bring people together and give residents opportunities to try something new.
“This funding will help us build on that offer by bringing even more theatre, music, poetry and creative activities into communities across Blackpool.
“We had amazing news last week that Blackpool’s City of Culture 2029 bid had been shortlisted and it’s important to recognise that culture is about so much more than entertainment. It can help our young people build confidence, make friendships, discover new interests and experience the joy that comes from taking part in something creative. It can open up opportunities, bring people together and help people feel part of their community.
“Culture should be accessible to everyone, whatever their age or background, and bringing these experiences into our local libraries, close to where people live, is a great way to make that happen. I am really looking forward to seeing the programme take shape over the next two years.”
Planning for the new programme is already under way, with the first events expected to be announced over the coming months.

Tickets will be heavily subsidised, helping to make live arts and creative experiences more affordable and accessible to residents.
The Arts Council England funding will also support opportunities for local artists, community-led creative residencies and development opportunities for library staff and volunteers.
The programme will complement the wide range of activities already taking place across Blackpool’s libraries, from live music through Get It Loud in Libraries to Art Clubs, craft, reading, social groups and immersive VR experiences.
There are also regular activities for children and families, including Baby Bounce and Rhyme and Build and Play sessions, alongside seasonal events and activities throughout the year.
Sue Robinson, Co-Director of Culturapedia, said: “We are delighted to build on our relationship with Blackpool Libraries and continue working together to bring more live arts into local communities.
“Over the last two years, we have brought shows to Anchorsholme, Layton and Moor Park libraries, and this new programme will give even more people the chance to enjoy affordable performances and creative activities on their doorstep.
“Keep an eye on our websites and social media to find out what’s coming next.”
Details of performances and activities will be shared as the programme develops.
