Police appeal for witnesses and footage after boy, 17, hospitalised after serious Blackpool road collision

Police have referred themselves to the IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct) over the incident.

Police are appealing for witnesses and footage following a road traffic collision in Blackpool.

Shortly before 2.10pm yesterday (28 August), officers requested for a Sur-Ron electric motocross bike to stop on Tyldesley Road. However, the rider of the Sur-Ron failed to stop for officers. Moments later, the Sur-Ron collided with the front of a Toyota Prius taxi at the crossroad junction with Rigby Road.

The rider of the Sur-Ron, a 17-year-old boy from Blackpool, was taken to hospital with a number of serious injuries. The driver of the taxi was not injured.

Work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances which led to the collision. Police are asking any witnesses, or anyone with CCTV, dashcam, doorbell or mobile phone footage, to make contact as soon as possible.

Anyone with information is asked to email [email protected] or call 101, quoting log 747 of 28 August 2026.

Because the rider had contact with the police prior to the collision, in that a request was made for him to stop, police have referred themselves to the IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct). Police said this is mandatory in incidents of this nature.
