High hopes single is an iTunes hit

The release of a new single on iTunes could have staff and patients at the Fylde coast's children's hospice singing for joy if it proves a hit.

That’s because proceeds from the sales of Golden Days – written by accountant and part-time songwriter Simon Cox – will be going straight to Brian House, in Bispham.

The 42-year-old, from Ansdell, will hear his creation sung in the Last Choir Singing competition in Blackburn on June 15 after winning a songwriting contest last year.

And now a professionally-recorded version featuring Simon’s vocals and backing from local choirs has gone on sale.

Dad-of-five Simon is a director at Lytham accountancy firm Forbes Watson and has been writing songs for 25 years.

He originally wrote Golden Days to mark the 21st anniversary of Bispham-based Brian House,

He said: “I have long written songs but never thought of entering a competition before.

“I wrote Golden Days with the aim of raising money for Brian House, which my wife Emma and I have been involved with for over 10 years.

“Last Choir Singing has helped raise awareness and the song has now been professionally recorded and is available on iTunes.”

Linzi Young, Brian House’s head of fundraising, said: “We hope it attracts plenty of downloads to help raise much needed funds.”
