Best sure to catch it before it leaves town!

Art lovers have just days left to see a rare Claude Monet masterpiece in Blackpool before it leaves the town on June 13.

More than 4,000 people have already visited Grundy Art Gallery to view The Petit Bras of the Seine at Argenteuil (1872), making it one of the gallery’s most successful exhibitions in recent years. Visitor numbers have more than doubled compared with the same period in 2024, with guests travelling from across the UK and as far afield as France and the United States.

Blackpool’s Grundy Art Gallery was selected as one of only four venues nationwide to host the painting as part of the National Gallery Masterpiece Tour 2025-2027. The town is also the first location in the North West to display the work, which has only left London’s National Gallery once in the past two decades.

The free exhibition has been described as an incredible opportunity to see one of the defining works of early Impressionism without travelling to the capital. Painted in 1872, experts regard the oil-on-canvas work as a pivotal piece in the development of the influential artistic movement.

The exhibition’s success comes as Grundy Art Gallery celebrates its 115th anniversary and as Blackpool continues its bid to become UK City of Culture 2029. Blackpool Council and Creative Blackpool are working together on the bid, which could bring £10 million to the town if successful.

The exhibition closes on June 13.
