Blackpool Transport update after tram collides with car on Talbot Road in town centre

Blackpool Transport has issued a statement on the incident.

A Blackpool tram stopped in the town centre following a collision with a car earlier today, Blackpool Transport has confirmed.

The clarification comes after the tram came to a halt on Talbot Road this morning, initially prompting confusion over whether it had broken down, become stuck or been forced to stop for another reason.

A Blackpool Transport Spokesman said: “A tram was involved in a minor collision with a car on Talbot Road this morning. There were no injuries reported and the tram was held in position for around 20 minutes while details were exchanged and the tram checked for damage.”

The tram had come to a complete stop in the middle of Talbot Road, causing traffic issues in the town centre as the situation was dealt with. Officials wearing high-visibility vests were seen at the front of the tram discussing the incident, while traffic was directed around the stationary vehicle.

Passengers were also seen disembarking from the tram and continuing their journeys on foot in wet and rainy conditions. Video footage of the incident showed officials speaking with passengers and making emergency calls following the unplanned stop.

The incident was initially thought to have been caused by a tram break-down, but Blackpool Transport has now confirmed that the stop was caused by a minor collision with a car and that no injuries were reported.

The tram remained in position for around 20 minutes while details of the collision were exchanged and checks were carried out to establish whether the tram had sustained any damage.
