Blackpool's beloved Sandcastle Waterpark to mark 40th birthday with raft of celebrations

Blackpool’s Sandcastle Waterpark is preparing to mark its 40th birthday with a month-long programme of celebrations, including a special 80s-themed party.
The UK’s biggest indoor waterpark officially opened its doors in Blackpool on 26 June 1986. Built on the site of the former South Shore Open Air Baths, the attraction was hailed as a 21st Century indoor seaside destination and quickly became a major draw for visitors.
On opening day, hundreds of people queued to get a first glimpse of the new attraction, which at the time featured just two water slides. Over the past four decades, Sandcastle Waterpark has grown significantly and has welcomed millions of guests through its doors.
What’s happening?
Today, the subtropical waterpark, maintained at a temperature of 84 degrees, is home to 18 slides and attractions. These range from high-adrenaline rides to family-friendly chutes, offering something for visitors of all ages.
Residents and tourists are being invited to take part in the birthday celebrations throughout June. The festivities will reach their climax on Friday 26 June with an 80s-themed party to commemorate the attraction’s milestone anniversary.

- 4 tickets for £40 weekdays during June
- Dad’s go free – Sunday 21 June
- Serving military and veterans go free during Armed Forces Week (22-28 June)
- FY postcodes – 50% off during June
- Splash back to the 80s party – Friday 26 June
- Quiet session – Saturday 27 June

‘Four decades of splashtastic adventures’

“This June, we’re marking the occasion with a month of special promotional offers, leading up to a spectacular 80s‑themed birthday party. To ensure that everyone can take advantage of the offers, we have extended our opening hours on Fridays to 8pm so families can visit after school and work.
