Blackpool Council said the changes are designed to reduce waste and boost recycling rates across the town.

As part of the new system, many households will also have a new bin collection day.

Residents are being advised to check their updated schedule online by entering their postcode or street name on the council’s website.

The authority has also warned that different vehicles will now collect waste, meaning bins may not all be emptied at the same time.

During the transition, some households will receive a one-off grey-lid bin collection to bridge the gap between the old and new schedules. Affected residents have been contacted directly and can also find details online.

To avoid missing collections, residents are advised to check their bin day, look out for any one-off changes and continue putting bins out by 7am.

The council added that weekly food waste collections will help households manage waste between collections under the new system.
