The 19-year-old top-scored in a successful pursuit of 152 as Kate Cross hit a six and a four in the final over, with nine runs needed.

She said: “I was feeling in touch, but I’ve had a few ropey games where I’ve gone away from how I’ve played.

Sunrisers had batted first at Stanley Park and posted 151-9 from their 20 overs.

Thunder overhauled that total with three balls left, reaching 155-5 for their highest T20 run chase.

Lissy Macleod had led the Sunrisers’ total with 60, while Amu Surenkumar added 32 from only 23 balls.

Sophie Ecclestone was Thunder’s top performer with the ball, claiming 3-18 from four overs.

The reply saw Fi Morris (25) and Emma Lamb (14) both dismissed before Katie Mack and Smale added 50 for the third wicket.

Mack (28) fell, followed by Ellie Threlkeld (2) and Eccleston who made 23.
