Lytham St Annes Hockey Club’s ladies’ first team drew 1-1 when they travelled to Kirkby Lonsdale last weekend.

Determined to improve upon their previous performances, LSA sought to press their hosts from the start.

They took the lead as Frankie Beeby, Charlotte Thomson and Jess McIntyre combined for Jade Yarwood to find the net.

Leading 1-0 at half-time, LSA continued to control the game until an opening down their left side helped Kirkby Lonsdale to level.

Although LSA sought to retake the lead, they could not take advantage after regaining control and possession of the ball.

Elsewhere, a number of LSA players were unavailable as the seconds lost 3-1 against Garstang’s fourths.

The team came out with excellent energy and a clear determination to perform well against a tough opponent.

LSA were unable to convert several strong short corner opportunities in the first half before a defensive lapse saw Garstang in front.

A short corner led to an LSA equaliser as a well-executed move ended with Michelle Robbins scoring.

More chances were spurned by LSA before Garstang scored twice more to take victory.

Finally, the men’s first team also lost 3-1 against Garstang.

LSA were composed in defence from the start, passing the ball around as the midfielders and forwards made some positive runs.

However, it was Garstang who took the lead before some poor defending led to their second goal.

LSA didn’t let their heads go down and pulled one back before the break through Neil Mallalieu.

The second half was a closely-fought battle with both teams having many chances.

Garstang capitalised on one of theirs, scoring on the counter to wrap up victory.
