Lytham St Annes Hockey Club round-up: First team flourishes against Southport

Lytham St Annes Hockey Club’s ladies completed a hat-trick of weekend wins.

Last weekend’s matches for Lytham St Annes Hockey Club were highlighted by a 9-0 win for the ladies’ first team against Southport 1.

LSA started at high intensity, taking the lead on 24 minutes through Polly Hargreaves’ penalty stroke before she quickly scored again.

Megan Hartley-Smith and Lilly Miles also scored in the space of six minutes to give LSA a 4-0 lead at half-time.

They maintained their dominance in the second half as Hartley-Smith made it 5-0 before Darley Harrison’s double put them 7-0 ahead.

Tash Webster scored LSA’s eighth before Harrison completed the tally with her hat-trick.

There was also a 3-2 win for LSA 2 against Leyland and Chorley 2.

They had a great start, scoring early on through Emily Townsend before Adriana Cawood found the net twice in eight minutes.

Leyland and Chorley fought back and set up a tense finish, but LSA kept their heads up and worked hard to keep their lead.

There was also a 2-1 win for LSA Development against Fylde 6.

Fylde broke the deadlock in the 21st minute to lead at half-time, after which Olivia Chapman levelled and Dani Woodward scored the winner.

Also in action were the men’s first team who drew 1-1 against Leyland and Chorley 1.

Both sides had early chances as LSA started with good pressure, moving the ball around quickly.

Leyland and Chorley lost the ball and Lytham countered, Michael Robbins leaving a defender on the floor and beating the keeper to make it 1-0.

Both teams had further opportunities each side of half-time, but it was Leyland and Chorley who equalised.

Although LSA ended the second half well, they couldn’t find the winning goal.
