Fylde Hockey Club round-up: Ladies' firsts share the spoils as men put Preston to the sword

Last weekend’s round-up of matches involving Fylde Hockey Club.

Six Fylde Hockey Club teams were in action last weekend with the ladies’ first team drawing 1-1 against Durham University 2 in Women’s Conference North.

Coming off the back of two losses, Fylde started brightly and took the lead through Nicky Kellett.

Durham broke through Fylde’s press to level with half-time approaching, after which both teams had chances without producing the quality needed in the final third.

North West Women’s Division One saw Fylde 2 pick up a 3-0 win against Lancaster and District 1.

The game began evenly but once Fylde absorbed the early exchanges, they began to settle.

They opened the scoring when Jessica Jennings drove forward and set up Chelsea Atkinson, who finished clinically.

Lancaster pushed hard to respond but Fylde worked tirelessly to break up play and were firmly in control as the game moved into the second half.

They scored again when Esther Thomson and Emma Savidge combined before Kiera Tomes netted in confident fashion.

Atkinson completed the scoring with her second, finishing off a flowing team move

In the same division, Fylde 3 lost 7-0 to Clitheroe Blackburn Northern 1.

Facing a strong opposition, Fylde created opportunities in a fairly end-to-end game.

However, they were unable to take advantage of those against an opposing team who did capitalise on their chances.

Fylde 5 lost 5-0 at Windermere 1 in North West Women’s Division Four North (Central).

Windermere started strongly, scoring four goals in the first half and putting Fylde under pressure.

Despite the difficult start, Fylde regrouped at half-time and were much stronger in the second half.

Fylde 6 were beaten 2-1 by Lytham St Annes Development in North West Women’s Division Five North (Central).

They scored through Eloise Russell but saw Lytham come back with two goals.

Finally, Fylde 1 were 7-1 winners against Preston 4 in North West Open’s Men’s Division Three North.

Fylde opened the scoring through Thomas Lumby before Preston levelled to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Harry Gordon restored Fylde’s lead before Lumby added another and then completed his hat-trick.

Charlie Oliver was next on the scoresheet, followed by Gordon’s second, while the scoring was completed as Henry Harrison’s ball across the D was deflected in.
