That win, coupled with South Shields’ loss to Darlington, gives Fylde the advantage over their nearest rivals who have one game in hand.

Seven points from their final three matches would guarantee Fylde the title, though Mahon is looking for a 100 per cent haul.

Speaking after Monday’s win, he told Fylde’s media team: “At the end of the day, we’ve come away with three points somehow.

“We’ve just got to focus on ourselves, we’ve got nothing else to think about apart from our own journey and our own story.

“That’s what we’re going to do. We’ve got three games and we’ll go out to win all three.”

Fylde’s win on Monday came after seeing Danny Ormerod depart proceedings before half-time, with Mahon unhappy at how the officials managed the game.

He added: “You have to understand the game to know what’s going on and I don’t think they did.

“Before Danny got taken off, I said to them ‘someone’s going to get seriously injured if you don’t get a grip of this game’ and lo and behold, a minute or two later, someone’s injured.

“He’s going to go (and) get a scan to make sure he’s OK but we’ve got quality in the group that even when he came off, we were still able to keep going.”
