AFC Fylde 4 Radcliffe 3: Coasters continue their home rule on Easter Monday

AFC Fylde moved six points clear at the top of National League North after beating Radcliffe 4-3 in an enthralling Mill Farm match on Easter Monday.

Luca Thomas’ early double, along with goals from Tom Whelan and Ethan Mitchell, made it 13 consecutive home league wins for the Coasters.

They scored with their first real chance on nine minutes, when a short corner was recycled and Whelan whipped the ball into the box for Thomas to nod home.

He doubled Fylde’s lead eight minutes later as some Danny Mayor trickery created space for the overlapping Adam Lewis, who smashed the ball across the box for Thomas to tap in his second.

Fylde continued to dominate and were rewarded with a third goal nine minutes before half-time.

Mayor switched the ball early from left to right, with Thomas setting up an onrushing Whelan who fired home his fifth goal of the season

Craig Mahon’s players could have gone four up just after the restart as Thomas hit the post a minute into the second half.

Radcliffe responded by pulling a goal back on 53 minutes as a corner found Lois Maynard, who headed home to give his team a lifeline.

Fylde substitute Conor McAleny also struck the woodwork before the visitors made it 3-2 on 65 minutes.

A good cross from Kian Scales found Rio Clegg, who nodded past Zac Jones from inside the six-yard box.

Four minutes later and they drew level as Maynard flicked on Danny Greenfield’s corner and the unmarked Jordan Hulme headed past the stranded Jones.

However, Fylde got their noses back in front 15 minutes from time with Mitchell heading home his first of the campaign from Whelan’s free-kick.

It was almost 5-3 five minutes later, the keeper spilling a tame George Wilson strike to Thomas whose deflected effort landed just the wrong side of the post.

The Coasters then managed to keep out a barrage of attacks in the time remaining to run out deserved winners.
