The former Luton Town man has made just nine appearances this season having been forced to undergo surgery in October, which left him out of action for over seven months.

Cullen is now relishing the opportunity to make up for lost time.

"I’m over the moon to get it tied up as quick as I have," he said.

"I’m really grateful to the club and the manager for showing faith after what has been a frustrating season for me.

“Personally I feel I’ve got a bit of making up to do, so I’m really looking forward to the start of next season.”

The club remain in talks with another eight out-of-contract players. Among them are Clark Robertson, Jay Spearing and Kyle Vassell.

Pool manager Gary Bowyer hopes Cullen will be the first of many to pledge their future to the club.

He added: “I’m delighted that Cully has committed his future to the club.

"He was a big miss for us at crucial stages last season, given that he’s a natural goalscorer, as well as a big personality and character around the place.

“It’s great that we’ve been able to get this deal done quickly, and hopefully a few more players will now follow suit.”
