Fleetwood Town boss takes heart from his first games in charge

The full-back joined on loan from Ipswich Town during last month’s transfer window and has had to adapt to being a key player at Highbury.

Prior to his move to Lancashire, the 27-year-old had found his game time limited at Portman Road.

However, Donacien has started all six games since arriving at Fleetwood as a replacement for Tom Edwards, who returned to Stoke City after his loan spell.

Despite suffering defeat at Plymouth Argyle last time out, Donacien insists the squad aren’t too downhearted and have been able to take some positives from their all-round performance at Home Park.

Ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Charlton Athletic, Donacien said :“I’ve been finding it good. I feel like I’ve done all right but there is a lot more to come from me.

“I’m pushing myself every day. I hadn’t played as much or had a start for a long time.

“Now I’m settling in and getting my fitness back to where it should be.

“With the back-to-back games it’s only going to help (Town play Saturday-Tuesday for the next four weeks).

“The loss against Plymouth was a tough one to take for us but there wasn’t a lot in the game.

“If you get blown away, then you start to look at yourself.

“But if you’re in the game, playing well, creating chances and limiting their chances, then you look back and think you’ve had a good performance, even if you have lost. We’ll crack on.”

Having played only three cup games this season before arriving at Fleetwood, Donacien may not have looked favourably at such a busy schedule on the horizon.

Instead, he’s looking forward to it, believing it’s easier to put disappointing games behind you and build momentum when the matches come around quickly.

I like back-to-back games,” he said. “There’s nothing better. I enjoy playing the games.

“It’s better for us because if you lose a game there is another game in a few days.

“If you win a game, we can get another win in a few days.

“But if you lose a on a Saturday and you have to wait until the next Saturday to play again, it doesn’t come off your mind until you go into the next game.

“You’re still thinking about what you could or should have done. With back-to-back games, you’re just on to the next one.”

One thing that has impressed the former Accrington Stanley man since moving to the Fylde coast is his teammates’ attitude.

Donacien feels that every member of Simon Grayson’s squad is pulling in the same direction.

He said: “We just want to win more games, that’s what we want to do.

“One of the first things I recognised after I came here was that the lads just want to do well.

“There’s no moaning and there are no bad eggs. Everyone just wants to do well and win games.

“With this league, if you put a few wins together you never know where you’ll end up.”
