Three games as Town boss have given Grayson a win, a draw and a defeat but he believes there have been positive signs.

He feels all three of those matches could have gone in Town’s favour but it’s about learning how to get more out of his squad.

“When I look at the team, when you break it down, defensively we’ve looked very solid,” Grayson said.

“Even last week against Plymouth (1-0 defeat), who have the leading goalscorer and are a free-flowing team, they weren’t really creating chances. That’s been a good starting point.

“You do try to be more creative and make some more chances of your own but that comes with working with the group of players as well.

People have different styles and ways that make them tick and you’ve got to get the right partnerships, organisation and when to play in the right areas.

“There have been lots of positives in the three games and we could have won them all.

Bristol Rovers (0-0 draw) was a close game and, even last week, we could have won that game. It’s been an encouraging three games.”

Creating chances can sometimes be difficult for Fleetwood, as can taking them on occasions.

There is a sense of what might have been around the club at the moment as they search for some momentum to run with.

While Grayson feels confidence can play a part in not taking opportunities, he will always encourage his forwards to make things happen.

He said: “It’s the hardest part of football, scoring goals and creating them.

“You’re trying to get the right balance in your group and understanding who works alongside each other well and the defensive side as well.

“Confidence plays a part in that. If you look at Callum Camps, in the early part of the season, everything he hit went in.

“Recently he’s not been able to hit the back of the net. Hopefully, we’re working on things that will help him improve that.

“Confidence plays a part in everything, and all the way through my career as a manager, I’ve tried to find the right balance of being creative and hard to beat at the same time.

“We’re certainly looking to improve in all of our areas.”
