Fleetwood Town midfielders can help bring new signings to Highbury

Both midfielders signed two-year contracts over the past week and featured in Friday’s agonising 1-0 home defeat against high-flying Peterborough United.

The duo have also featured in every game since Grayson’s appointment as head coach at the end of January.

Grayson, who has himself recently agreed a longer-term Fleetwood deal, said: “Having players like Jordan and Dan is a big attraction for other players in the summer.

“We’re tying down our best players and looking to bring as good players as possible to the football club.

“Showing them round the training ground and the facilities can certainly encourage a lot of players to come to this club. We are working hard on our recruitment for next year.

“I’ve made a lot of calls to contacts and it’s a good proposition to be at this football club, with many positive factors.”

Grayson is delighted to have secured the services of Batty and Rossiter until the summer of 2023.

He added: “Jordan has been very, very good since I’ve been at the football club. He does the ugly side of the game well and enjoys that side.

“Dan Batty has been a revelation since he has been here. We were fortunate to get him in the first place because of him going out of favour at Hull.

“He’s a good lad with Championship experience, who has shown a lot of good qualities.

“So to secure him on a two-year deal shows where we are looking to go for the future of this club over the next year or so.”

With Callum Camps and Sam Finley in the equation, Town’s midfield options will be the envy of many a rival club in League One.

Asked if Town could even have the division’s outstanding midfield quartet, Grayson added: “They won’t be far away. They all give you different things.

“Callum Camps has come back from injury after a stop-start couple of weeks and has 11 goals from midfield, which is brilliant.

“I think they all have different strengths in there, so it’s nice to have different permutations.

“Whether we go with a two or a three in midfield, they can all bring something different.”

Fleetwood look to avoid a third successive defeat as they head to AFC Wimbledon today (3pm).

Their hosts are at the opposite end of the table to Peterborough but Grayson knows they will be every bit as desperate for points.

He added: “I noticed a lot of the top teams scored late goals on Friday because of the desperation at this stage of the season.

“That’s the case for teams trying to get promoted and for teams at the other end trying to stay up.”
