Fleetwood Town midfielder didn't think twice about signing his new contract

The 24-year-old put pen to paper on a new two-year-deal at the club, keeping him there until 2023.

His existing deal was due to expire in the summer, though the club did have an option of extending it for a further 12 months.

Rossiter initially joined Town on loan from Rangers in 2019, only for knee ligament damage against Tranmere Rovers that November to sideline him for the remainder of the season.

After recovering and then joining the club permanently, Rossiter has gone on to become a mainstay under Joey Barton, Simon Wiles and now Simon Grayson.

His ambition is to repay the faith that has been shown in him.

Rossiter said: “I was really delighted to get the deal over the line.

“The club came to me with an offer and I just wanted to get it signed.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here over the last two seasons and I’m really happy where I’m at.

“I feel this club is a really good fit for where I am at, the way I’m playing, the stage of my career.

“I’m buzzing to get it over the line and hopefully have a good end of the season now.

“It took me a little while to find my feet again bu these last few months I’ve felt really good physically and mentally.

“I’m just made up that I’ve got that contract signed and I want to kick on now.

“Since the injury happened, the previous management staff stuck by me and the new staff have stuck by me.

“For 18 months now, Liam McGarry (head physio), Lloyd Balasz (soft tissue therapist), Richard Baron (physio), James Barrow (sports science) and all of the sports science and medical team have been superb with me.

“I’d like to thank them for getting me through a tough time in my career. I’m still only young but it was a tough year.

“I’ve come back fit, I feel like I’m finding and hitting a good bit of form and I feel strong. I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Today’s home game against Peterborough United is Town’s first for almost two weeks. Their last outing was the home defeat against Swindon Town on March 20.

They should have met Burton Albion last weekend only for that match to be called off because of the Brewers’ international call-ups.

While grateful for a break amid a hectic fixture list, Town still put in the work.

Rossiter said: “It’s a very rigorous schedule. It’s a lot more rigorous this year, with all the games we’ve had to cram into a shorter space of time.

“We’ve got a fantastic sports science team here – everything is laid out for us.

“There’s no excuse for us not to be able to go out and play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday. That’s what most footballers want to do.

“You want to be out playing games with the Saturday-Tuesdays, especially when you’re winning and in good form.

“We’re looking forward to the rest of the season. It was nice to get a bit of a break but we were in training hard.

“We’re just looking to get those three points against Peterborough now.”
