Simon Wiles satisfied with first clean sheet as Fleetwood boss

The owner also assured spectators that a permanent managerial appointment will be made soon.

In a video statement on the club’s website ahead of Saturday’s trip to Wigan Athletic, Pilley said: “The manager situation is fluid. Wilesy (interim boss Simon Wiles), as I’ve said previously, is an exceptional young coach who will go on to be a successful manager and we are doing things a day at a time.

“I’ll always do what I consider to be in the best interests of the football club. That’s always my number one priority and there are big calls to make.

“I’ll consult the people I really respect and a decision will be made at some point in the very near future. Time will tell on that one.”

Pilley was speaking at a time Fleetwood had lost all three games under Wiles, though they picked up their first point for the interim boss at Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The chariman added: “I think supporters need to bear in mind our fixtures have been tough. We’ve played Hull away and Portsmouth and gave two good performances in really narrow defeats.

“I think everyone accepts the first half at Milton Keynes (where they lost 3-1 last Tuesday) was not good enough. Individual errors cost us goals and we missed chances. We can’t do that week in, week out but we’re all working hard and pulling in same direction.

“We know what we are doing. I’ve done this for 16 years. The people around me have done it for a long time and we’ll be back to winning ways very soon.

“I believe in the squad we’ve got and I believe that with an injection of quality we can still make those play-offs, so stick with us and let’s get back to winning ways.”
