Wigan Athletic 0 Fleetwood 0: Frustrating stalemate for Town

However, the Cod Army’s struggle for goals and victories continued after failing to break down hosts whose previous two games had seen 13 goals scored.

Town's only goal in Wiles' three League One games in charge has been Sam Finley's late consolation in last Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at MK Dons. However, it's a problem carried over from the previous regime as Town scored only four in their final seven games under Joey Barton.

But Wiles was quick to take the positives after ending the club’s three-game losing streak with his first .

“I’m happy after that, I’m happy with a point,” he said. “I’m pleased we’re up and running if I’m honest with you.

“I feel that in the previous fixtures we have played better and we haven’t come away with anything.

“Today was a tough game, so the fact we’ve managed to come away with a clean sheet and a point puts us in a good position.

“You always have thoughts that it could have been more when you have chances.”

The Cod Army had their chances to pick up all three points on a bitterly cold afternoon at the DW Stadium.

But Wiles praised his side’s character after securing a tough point on the road.

The lowly Latics may be in the dreaded drop zone but they are above the Cod Army in the form guide and are now unbeaten in five league outings.

And Wiles reflected: “I thought there was a lot of grit and determination and it was a lot of the other side of the game which we showed.

“We’ve been speaking about being difficult to beat and we’ve built the foundations for Tuesday night against Northampton.

“We know we’ve got some players who can really go and hurt teams and can make things happen."
