The Seasiders slumped to a second consecutive defeat on Saturday, Rovers edging a topsy-turvy game 2-1.

That’s despite Neil Critchley’s side taking the lead through Gary Madine after just eight minutes and going on to have a further 20 attempts on goal.

But, not for the first time this season, Blackpool were unable to make their dominance pay and the home side hit back with two quickfire goals to snatch the points.

Turton said: “We had a lot of the ball. We looked a threat every time we were up in and around their box. But our final ball, our final cross or our final shot, wasn’t good enough. That’s myself included.

“We had a couple of good chances early on and managed to get the lead. We were still right on top of the game but these things can happen.

“It was a mistake (from Dan Ballard) to make it 1-1 but we had to go again and make sure we were right at the back.

“We had to make sure they didn’t go ahead, which we failed to do.

“The lads showed character all game to try and get back in the match. None of us gave up, which was great. But our final ball, our final shot didn’t work but I’m sure it will in the next game and the following games to come.

“After they score a goal, you need to be switched on again, shut up shop and go again at the other end.

“It’s a good strike from their player but it’s something that shouldn’t have happened and we’ll learn from it.

“We kept on going right until the end, none of the lads gave up. It fell for a couple of the lads but it’s just one of those things where it’s not come off or the shot was missed or the cross was poor. It was one of those games.

“We’ve got to do better when we are dominant in games to be able to put those chances away.”

Turton was brought back into the fold on Saturday, having been dropped to the bench for the defeat to Shrewsbury Town in midweek, when Nottingham Forest loanee Jordan Gabriel was favoured at right-back.

Turton was one of Blackpool’s standout performers on Saturday, defensively solid throughout and also offering a threat going forward.

“I was happy to be back involved,” the 28-year-old said. “All I want to do is play every single game, so I was chuffed to bits to play again.”
