Middlesbrough v Blackpool - live updates
Key Events
- FT: Middlesbrough 1-2 Blackpool
- Seasiders looking to get back to winning ways after midweek setback
- Demetri Mitchell could return from six-week injury lay-off
25 - Comes to nothing
As he often does, Josh Bowler takes the ball past his marker with a bit of pace, but his cross is overhit and beats everyone in the centre.
22 - Woodwork
Close again for Boro.
Marcus Tavernier pulls the ball back to Andraz Sporar, whose well-hit effort clips the top of the crossbar.
Pool coming under plenty of pressure here as Boro push for a second.
21 - Good defending
Boro counter at speed after a Pool move breaks down. James Lea Siliki whips in a dangerous cross into the centre, but Richard Keogh shows good positioning to get across his man and make the block.
14 - Had to score!
A Ryan Wintle cross is flicked on by a Boro defender to the unmarked Tyreece John-Jules, who cuts back before blazing over the bar. The Arsenal loanee simply had to score!
12 - Booking
Shayne Lavery beats his man down the left and is away, but he’s cynically hacked down by Dael Fry. The Boro defender is deservedly shown a yellow card.
11 - Replay
Having had the benefit of watching a replay in the press box, I can give you the unfortunate news that the Boro player was indeed miles offside.
A back post cross reaches Dael Fry, who is originally in an onside position. But before the ball reaches him, the cross is flicked on by Lee Peltier - which has obviously been missed by the referee.
Fry played it back across goal for Tavernier to tap home into the back of the empty net.
7 - Goal Middlesbrough (1-0)
Marcus Tavernier taps home following a well-worked corner.
Pool’s players are desperately appealing for offside, but the goal stands. Blackpool’s analyst appears to indicate to Neil Critchley that the goal was clearly offside and shouldn’t have stood.
6 - Corner
Dujon Sterling clears behind with a well-timed tackle, giving Boro the first corner of the game.
They instantly win another too as Sterling clears at the near post.
5 - Comes to nothing
Pool’s first foray into the Boro half comes to nothing, as Dujon Sterling’s cross beats everyone in the box.
Sterling has already had a couple of nervy moments defensively on his debut. Hopefully he can settle down now.
