Ian Evatt shares honest views on Blackpool's repeat problems on the road with Wycombe Wanderers and Reading trips still to go
Blackpool were defeated 1-0 by Stevenage on the road.
Blackpool boss Ian Evatt states his side have lost physical battles away from home too often this season - on the back of Easter Monday’s 1-0 defeat to Stevenage.
Harvey White scored the only goal of the contest at the Lamex Stadium, as the Seasiders found themselves stuck in a scrappy battle they couldn’t win.
Leighton Clarkson came the closest to scoring for the visitors in Hertfordshire, with a free kick from the midfielder hitting the post, but beyond that creativity in open play was rare.
Blackpool have struggled in similar games on the road throughout the season, picking up just 13 points away from Bloomfield Road - which is the 22nd worst record in League One and a contributing factor behind the club’s struggles near the bottom.
With just two point between themselves and Exeter City in 21st, the Seasiders may need to change their fortunates when travelling, with trips to both Wycombe Wanderers and Reading both featuring in their final four games.
“Too often this season we’ve been poor against the physical teams,” Evatt admitted.
“Too often we’ve come second-best against the physicality of this league - that’s happened again today. We have battled for large parts, but we can’t just do that, we have to show some quality with the ball.
“You have to play your game and make them fight your fight. Too often we’ve fought the physical teams’ fight and come second-best.
“It’s a mixture of everything, and a mixture of not being brave enough to play our way. Too often we resort to what the opposition are doing to us and get fixed into playing that they are better at than we are.
“It’s something we need to look at. What’s done is done now, we have to focus on Saturday. It’s disappointing but we need to dust ourselves down.”
