Why free midweek is so important for Michael Appleton’s depleted Blackpool side ...

There had been speculation among Coventry fans that the administration of rugby union side Wasps, who are landlords of their stadium, could negatively affect Mark Robins’ side.

It follows an ongoing dispute between the football club, Wasps and Coventry City Council.

“Coventry City can confirm that Saturday’s home game against Blackpool will be played as scheduled at the Coventry Building Society Arena,” Saturday’s opponents said in a statement.

“We are aware of rumours to the contrary on social media and we are able to confirm the fixture will be going ahead as planned.

“The Sky Blues have today received written guarantees from Arena Coventry Limited to confirm this to us.

“We remain in constant dialogue with Arena Coventry Limited and Coventry City Council regarding the current situation.

“We know that the current situation regarding the Arena and its operating company is a concern for fans, as it is for the club, and we will continue to communicate with supporters as and when we’re able to do so, and look forward to welcoming supporters on Saturday.”

The Sky Blues remain behind on their fixtures this season owing to issues with their pitch earlier in the season.

They weren’t able to use the stadium at the start of the season after damage was caused to the pitch by the Rugby 7s tournament at the Commonwealth Games.

As a result, the Sky Blues remain in the bottom three – although they have picked up in recent weeks with three straight wins and a draw against Rotherham United.
