Blackpool boss explains Wycombe Wanderers celebrations as he hopes to replicate feeling against Leyton Orient

Blackpool take on Leyton Orient at Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon.

Ian Evatt states Blackpool’s celebrations against Wycombe Wanderers was to demonstrate the club’s unity and togetherness.

The 1-0 victory at Adams Park last weekend moved the Seasiders six points and five places clear of the League One relegation zone, with just two games remaining - starting with this Saturday’s meeting with Leyton Orient.

A 96th minute equaliser from goalkeeper Jack Bycroft in Exeter City’s 3-3 draw with Stockport County elsewhere, stopped the Fylde Coast outfit from securing safety mathematically, but they’ll be hoping to do that this time around.

At full time of the Wycombe game, Evatt, alongside his staff and players, gathered in front of the away end for a group fist pump.

“It shouldn’t be misconstrued - it wasn’t a ‘we’ve done the job’ celebration; it was to show our unity and togetherness,” the Blackpool boss said.

“We are here, fighting for each other, and that includes the supporters as well. We just wanted them to see that we are fully together and that we’re trying our best for this wonderful football club.

“It’s important to show everyone that side of us. It was a special moment.

“It’s a typical Blackpool moment, where only a keeper scoring in the 96th minute can prevent us from being safe after a wonderful result, but it gives us the opportunity to do things on our own ground in front of our own fans.

“I feel like it isn’t done yet. We’ve all been in this game long enough to know we shouldn’t take anything for granted. My message to the players is not to be reliant on anyone else; let’s make sure we take care of our own business, and that means getting the points we need to stay up on our own merit - that’d give me a sense of satisfaction.

“Doing in front of our fans is hugely important for us.”
