Blackpool FC captaincy explained after unexpected contender receives armband in Wycombe Wanderers meeting
Blackpool overcame Wycombe Wanderers with a 1-0 win on the road on Saturday afternoon.
CJ Hamilton was handed the captain’s armband in Blackpool’s 1-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.
The Seasiders’ usual skipper George Honeyman missed the trip to Buckinghamshire due to injury, while Fraser Horsfall was also absent after receiving a red card in last weekend’s victory over Peterborough United.
James Husband had served as the Fylde Coast outfit’s club captain up until February, but was stripped of the role after being sent off for kicking out against Plymouth Argyle, and didn’t resume the responsibility against the Chairboys despite being in the starting XI.
The decision to give Hamilton the opportunity to lead out his teammates came down to the respect for what he’s given the club since his move to Bloomfield Road in 2020.
“He’s been here a long time,” Blackpool head coach Ian Evatt said.
“His behaviour on and off the pitch is immaculate. He’s always there for his teammates, he’s always a good professional, his information is excellent, and he cares about this football club.
“Why not CJ? - after all of those things I’ve just listed. He’s been a huge part of this club’s journey and deserves everyone’s respect. He deserves my respect today by making him captain.”
