Ex-Blackpool FC and Wigan Athletic forward 'likely' to miss huge battle for Premier League opportunity

Kyle Joseph departed Blackpool for Hull City 18 months ago - and has become a regular in the Tigers side fighting for promotion.

Former Blackpool striker Kyle Joseph could be celebrating the prospect of becoming a Premier League player at the weekend - but may not be able to directly impact Hull City’s fortunes.

The Tigers are in Championship play-off final action at Wembley on Saturday afternoon, with a place in the top flight awaiting the winner.

Joseph has been a regular for the East Yorkshire outfit so far this season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 46 second tier outings this term.

In the second leg of Hull’s semi-final second leg tie away to Millwall, the 24-year-old was forced off with a serious ankle injury.

Towards the end of last week, it was reported that the initial prognosis of the issue was not positive, leaving it ‘likely’ that he’ll miss this weekend’s showpiece occasion.

Joseph spent 18 months with Blackpool, after making the move to Bloomfield Road from Swansea City in the summer of 2023.

Due to injury and selection, the Wigan Athletic youth product endured a frustrating first season in Tangerine under Neil Critchley - scoring just one goal in 30 League One outings.

The appointment of Steve Bruce a month into the following campaign rejuvenated the striker’s fortunes, as he became a key player for the Seasiders.

After finding the back of the net seven times in the first half of the 2024/25 season, Joseph caught the eye of Hull, and ultimately made a £2.5million move to the MKM Stadium.

While his first six months didn’t bring any goal contributions, he has been able to settle a lot more in his first full season in Humberside.
