Blackpool 1-0 Leyton Orient: Seasiders secure League One survival as home form gets them over the line

Blackpool claimed a 1-0 victory over Leyton Orient to mathematically secure their safety in League One.

Blackpool mathematically secured their League One status with a 1-0 victory over Leyton Orient at Bloomfield Road.

Building on their recent strong form, the Seasiders managed to produce another impressive display to get over the line in the relegation battle at the bottom of the third tier - after a disappointing season on the whole.

Ian Evatt’s side picked up their latest win after a Dale Taylor penalty found its way in off Will Dennis during the first half.

The game’s opening opportunity came the way of Tom Bloxham. After a quick break into the opposition half, CJ Hamilton found the forward with a low driven ball from the right, with a first time strike being pushed just wide.

From the subsequent corner, Olly Casey tested the Orient keeper again, but this time it proved to be a simple save for the AFC Bournemouth loanee.

The 25-year-old found a half volley attempt from Jordan Brown a little more difficult, with an important hand putting the swirling effort over the bar.

Following an early period of pressure, the Seasiders’ opener eventually came on the 20th minute, after a spot kick was given for a shirt pull on Karoy Anderson in the box.

Taylor stepped up to convert from the spot, with the shot finding its way in off the inside of the left post and the back of Dennis.

The visitors’ only real reaction in the first half was an attempt from Jack Simpson - who fired over the crossbar just before the break.

Further chances came Blackpool’s way following the restart. An attempt on the volley from Zac Ashworth was tipped over the bar by Dennis, while a couple of opportunities also well Leighton Clarkson’s way.

Down the other end, Orient continued to find themselves restricted, with a shot from Aaron Connolly being the closest the East London outfit came to finding an equaliser.

Heading into the final moments of the contest, Hamilton saw a shot stopped by Dennis, following some good work from Anderson to feed the ball into his teammate.

Despite not getting a second, the result was still comfortably seen out by the Seasiders - as they turn their attention into taking their end of season form into the 2026/27 campaign.
