'More stressful than my divorce' - Blackpool legend shares thoughts on Huddersfield Town draw

Blackpool drew 2-2 with Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon after giving away a two-goal lead in West Yorkshire.

Blackpool legend Brett Ormerod states it was a good point for the club against Huddersfield Town at the weekend - even if he was left disappointed by the fact it wasn’t three.

The Seasiders drew 2-2 with the Terriers on Saturday afternoon, as they let a two-goal lead slip at the Accu Stadium.

Ashley Fletcher and Karoy Anderson had edged the visitors ahead in West Yorkshire, before Marcus Harness and Cameron Ashia pulled things level.

The result marks Blackpool’s fourth point since the start of the new calendar year, with their form taking a dip following a successful December.

Ormerod, who represented the Seasiders twice during his playing career, was on commentary duty for BBC Radio Lancashire.

The retired forward believes an incorrect decision from the officials played its part in changing the momentum of the contest.

“That second half was more stressful than my divorce,” he told the broadcaster.

“First and foremost, all three debutants for Blackpool, (Reuell) Walters, (Karoy) Anderson and (Leighton) Clarkson were fantastic. They ran out of a bit of steam understandably, but they looked like really good acquisitions.

“Clarkson has a really good left foot, Walters looked really good down the right-hand side, and Anderson is very good on the ball.

“Huddersfield started as the better team. Dion Charles got down the right twice, the first shot was saved by (Bailey) Peacock-Farrell’s, and the second one - he put a cross across Blackpool’s box and Bali Mumba slid in from the back and missed an open net.

“From then, Blackpool took the game by the scruff of the neck. Ashley Fletcher scored again. On the volley behind him, he’s hooked it back in and it’s a fantastic first goal.

“If that was good, then the second was even better. It was a fantastic move down the right-hand side, and it’s a great cross in and Anderson was there with a header - he gave the keeper no chance. 2-0 at half time, and everything looked really good.

“In the second half, and for 20 minutes Blackpool were comfortable. Huddersfield had made changes, but they huffed and puffed.

“Then, the referee starts losing the plot and starts giving bookings out. I said, he’s going to give something here that affects this game.

“On 74 minutes, a player comes through the back of Fletcher and fouls him, but it’s a decision the referee didn’t give and they just played on. The lad knocked it in, and it’s Marcus Harness that got the header. It was a goal from absolutely nowhere.

“It gave Huddersfield the momentum to get back into the game, and it was just a blue and white tirade from there.

“The second goal came in the 88th minute. It’s a really well-worked goal.

“It was one of those games, from such a comfortable and commanding position. On reflection a point here is a very good point, but because of the position they got themselves in, you just couldn’t see Huddersfield getting back in it without a penalty, a sending off or not giving a decision in a vital area.

“Disappointing from the position they were in, but albeit a good point.”
