A Blackpool fan has died following a medical emergency during Saturday’s game against Peterborough United.
Play was halted during the second half of the Seasiders’ 3-1 win at Bloomfield Road after supporters in the north side of the West Stand signalled for assistance.
Despite the best efforts of numerous medical professionals, the fan, who has been named as Graham Sharman, passed away.
In a statement confirming the news, the club wrote: “Blackpool Football Club is deeply saddened to report the news of the passing of supporter Graham Sharman.
“Graham suffered a medical emergency in the second half of Saturday's match at Bloomfield Road. Despite the best efforts of numerous medical professionals, Graham sadly passed away.
“The club have been in contact with his family and will remain in close communication to offer any support that is needed at this time.
“The thoughts and condolences of everyone go out to Graham’s family and all of those connected at this time. Rest in peace, Graham.”
Both managers shared their thoughts after the conclusion of the game.
“Some things are more important than football, and my thoughts and prayers are with the guy who came to a football match and ended up having a cardiac arrest - for me there’s bigger things than football, and it’s important to have perspective of that,” Blackpool boss Ian Evatt stated.
Meanwhile, Peterborough head coach Luke Williams said: “Something really very disturbing in the crowd, and we’re thinking about the families, it’s very upsetting.”
