Blackpool FC Community Trust column: Tackling the cost of living challenge

Blackpool FC Community Trust has been helping residents to tackle the cost of living through the summer holidays.

In addition to our Holiday Activity and Food Camps, we have hosted the Big Food Truck, Family Clubs and Breakfast Clubs at Bloomfield Road, thanks to support from Blackpool Council.

Each of the sessions offers something a little different.

The Big Food Truck allows you to collect your pre-ordered food.

Prices start at £4 for a single bag, which includes daily essentials such as beans, bread, frozen meals, pasta and sauces, as well as some fresh fruit and vegetables.

At the same time as accessing the Big Food Truck, customers were also able to sit, chat, have a drink and also take part in some chair-based activities and health checks.

A welcome addition was the children’s corner, so youngsters could do something fun while their families accessed the Big Food Truck.

More than 150 members of our local community have been in attendance through this time.

Some have said they have been able to save enough money to buy paint in order to redecorate a bedroom before a pending operation, it has relieved pressures from the cost of school uniforms or it has kept the cupboards full over the holidays.

We have also continued to hold our Family Clubs, providing a hot meal on two evenings and fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Those activities have ranged from family circuits to party games, visiting the park and writing our own story as part of our ‘Let’s Write A Story’ activity.

Our Family Clubs have supported members of the community with food across summer and free activities for them to look forward to.

The Breakfast Club has also been a hit with younger children and their families attending, having breakfast and taking part in a variety of activities.

We concluded our Summer Breakfast Club with a walk around the pitch and a surprise visit from Bloomfield Bear.

Thanks to support from Blackpool Council, more than 300 people have attended our summer clubs.

If the cost of living is affecting you, in any way, you are more than welcome to attend any of the activities above.
